- A reporter pretends to be Jewish in order to cover a story on anti-Semitism, and personally discovers the true depths of bigotry and hatred.

- Allen Spargo, a mining engineer betrothed to Theresa Kane, goes West to make his fortune and is seriously injured in an accident. Kate Leonard falls in love with him while nursing him to recovery. She jealously intercepts his fiancée's letters and writes Theresa that Allen is dead. Paralyzed by grief for a time, Theresa finally agrees to marry her former suitor, Lemuel Antree, but soon after the ceremony, Allen returns. Assuming that she no longer loves him, Allen leaves for the West, but Theresa follows him. Lemuel pursues the couple intending to kill them, but learns that Allen had once saved his life. Since Lemuel believes that his life, in effect, belongs to Allen, he drowns himself to allow the couple to marry.
- Ruth Nolan, employed in a broker's office, is the sole support of her aged mother. Resenting her employer's advances she is discharged. In an exhausted condition, brought on by bodily privation, she is found by Richard Folsom, director of the Star Moving Picture Company. Folsom, impressed by her beauty, offers her a position. Sidney Bowen, Folsom's leading man, has saved his life, and Folsom in his gratitude offers Bowen anything he may possess at any time Bowen may want it. They make a gentleman's agreement to this effect and put it in writing. Little does either of them realize, when this gentleman's agreement is made, how it is to influence the greatest passion of their lives, when it shall stand a menacing specter between Ruth Nolan and Folsom.

- Mike tries to talk Mayor Winston out of joining a private club that prohibits women, but his efforts lead to both of them and several other staffers being trapped in the club steam room by a muckraking reporter. Meanwhile, Stuart tries to join the women's book club at the office and Paul tries to help when James is swindled by a local card shark.
